Scifaiku is science fiction themed haiku poetry. The form follows similar rules to creating English language haiku, but with a speculative twist. In this workshop, Anaheim Poet Laureate Emerita Wendy Van Camp will explain the essential parts needed to compose and structure this specialized poetry form. Brainstorm your way to creating your own speculative poetry. The workshop is free for the public.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I and my poetry troupe, the “Starlit Scribes” will read and discuss speculative poetry for the university poetry classes at this university-based science fiction conference. Wendy Van Camp will moderate a panel at the Science Fiction & Fantasy Writers Association’s (SFWA) debut online conference. It is a conference geared toward professional-level writers of science fiction and fantasy.

Quasar is free for Nebula attendees and only $50 for new guests. Anyone who attends Quasar can later access SFWAs online yearly programming, which includes write-ins, a poetry open mic, workshops, and more. If you’ve wanted this access but could not afford to travel to the Nebula Conference, this could be a great opportunity to sample what SFWA offers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Poetry, Flash, & the Power of Hybrid Storytelling”<\/strong>
Where does \u201cthe poetic\u201d begin and end? What differentiates a prose poem from flash fiction? And why are we so hung up on dividing lines in genre in the first place – and not on the power of hybrid storytelling? In this panel, members of SFWA\u2019s Speculative Poetry Committee are in conversation with a dynamic creator of flash and other experimental SFF forms, to explore the liminal in speculative writing – and to encourage fellow writers to full use whatever medium best reflects the idea they wish to convey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I’ve been a member of the Southern California Haiku Study Group for many years. Poets from the 2025 and upcoming 2026 anthologies produced by SCHSG read their haiku poems as a group. I was included since several of my haiku poems have been accepted in the 2026 SCHSG anthology annual. It was a pleasure to read at this conference and get to know my fellow haiku poets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Anaheim Poetry Review 3 Launch Party<\/strong>

I am the inaugural editor and creator of Anaheim Poetry Review and shepherded the first two issues. When my term as poet laureate came to its natural conclusion, I turned the annual over to my successor, Poet Laureate Camille Hernandez. To be supportive of the annual, I submitted poetry to the third issue, and my poem “Rockets Over Anaheim” was accepted. At the launch party, I read this poem to the audience and stayed to autograph copies of the book alongside all the other poets. It was asked not to disclose the location because of concerns about ICE, so I will respect this request here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
